General

The Brighton Painting Group is a community of artists who meet monthly to paint outdoors (en plein air) in and around Brighton. We welcome all skill levels, from beginners to professionals, and there’s no formal tutoring—just a relaxed, creative atmosphere.

We meet on the third Saturday of every month, starting at 10:00 AM. Each meet-up lasts until around 13:00 or 14:00, depending on the season.

No, joining our meet-ups is completely free! Just show up with your painting materials or sketchbook.

We post all the details about upcoming meet-ups on our Instagram page, and you can also join our WhatsApp group for real-time updates.

Participation and What to Expect

No! We welcome everyone, whether you’re a seasoned painter or picking up a brush for the first time. It’s all about having fun and enjoying the outdoors.

That’s perfectly fine! We understand painting outdoors can be daunting at first, so we encourage beginners to join and experience it in a friendly, supportive group setting.

Absolutely! You’re more than welcome to observe, chat with other artists, or simply enjoy the atmosphere before trying it yourself.

While most members bring their own paints (oils, watercolors, acrylics), you can also bring a sketchbook—or nothing at all! It’s entirely up to you.

Yes! Friends, family members, or partners are welcome to join and enjoy the experience, whether they paint or just want to socialize.

Participation in Brighton Painting Group events is at your own risk. The organizers are not responsible for injury, loss, or damage.

Locations and Weather

Locations are chosen based on a mix of scenic spots around Brighton, from parks and beaches to urban streets. We sometimes revisit popular locations and also take suggestions from group members!

If it looks like rain or the weather is very cold, many of us will find shelter in a nearby café or even paint indoors. We keep an eye on the forecast and provide updates through Instagram and WhatsApp if plans change.

No, you can venture anywhere nearby! If the group is meeting at a park, for example, you’re free to explore surrounding streets or find a cozy corner in a café to paint.

Art Materials and Techniques

Most of our members use oils, watercolours, or acrylics, but you’re welcome to bring a sketchbook or any other medium you prefer. Don’t forget essentials like an easel, palette, brushes, or even a chair if needed.

We don’t provide materials, so be sure to bring your own if you want to paint. However, if you’re just coming to observe or chat, there’s no need to bring anything.

While there’s no formal tutoring, our meet-ups are friendly and collaborative. Feel free to ask fellow members for tips or feedback on your work!

Photography and Sharing

Yes, we usually take a group photo at the end of each meet-up. Participants often share their own photos of the day, including paintings and work-in-progress shots.

Definitely! We encourage members to share their artwork and photos either directly on the WhatsApp group or add our Instagram account as a collaborator to your post and we will reshare your post on our feed.

It’s polite to ask before photographing someone else’s work, especially if you plan to share it online. Most members are happy to have their work shared, but it’s always good to check!

Additional Information

Pets are welcome, as long as they’re comfortable in the environment and won’t disturb others while painting.

The size of the group varies from month to month, but we typically have around 10–20 people at each meet-up.

Children are welcome to join with a parent or guardian, but please keep in mind that the sessions are outdoors and the group may be spread out.
