About the Brighton Painting Group
The Brighton Painting Group (BPG) is an open, welcoming community of artists who meet monthly to paint en plein air in and around the beautiful city of Brighton. Founded on November 13, 2021, by Elliot Roworth, the group has since grown into a vibrant hub where artists of all abilities can connect, share, and create together.
Elliot’s Vision
When Elliot moved to Brighton, he was surprised to find no existing open plein air painting groups. Driven by his passion for painting outdoors and learning from others, Elliot founded BPG with the goal of fostering an inclusive, supportive space for artists. His philosophy is rooted in the idea of giving back to the community, a sentiment shaped by the many talented and generous artists who had mentored him along the way.
The group provides a unique opportunity for both seasoned plein air painters and beginners to grow their skills. Whether you’re picking up a brush for the first time or refining your practice, you’ll find BPG to be a space where endless tips, experiences, and encouragement are shared freely among members. It’s not about formal tutoring—it’s about creating, experimenting, and improving together.
A New Chapter
As of 2024, after three incredible years of leading the group, Elliot is embarking on new adventures in Thailand and Australia. While his travels may take him far from Brighton, his parting words reflect the enduring spirit of the group: “CARRY ON MEETING AND PAINTING OUT!”
And that’s exactly what we intend to do. With a deep sense of community and passion for plein air painting, BPG will continue to meet and grow, offering artists the chance to explore new locations, try new techniques, and connect with others who share their love for painting outdoors.
Our Group Today
We meet on the third Saturday of every month, gathering at various inspiring locations across Brighton. Whether you’re working with oils, watercolors, acrylics, or simply sketching, all mediums and styles are welcome. And you don’t even need to bring paints—just come along and enjoy the creative atmosphere.
